Lumbini

Lumbini is the place where Lord Buddha was born, which is situated in the Rupandehi district of Nepal. It is regarded as the place where Queen Mayadevi gave birth to Prince Siddhartha Gautam, who later left the palace in search of peace and with the intense meditation, found peace and was enlightened by knowledge and was called Buddha from thereon. He spread the knowledge that he gained and that later converted into a religion called Buddhism.

Lumbini has various temples which includes the famous Mayadevi temple, Buddha temple and many more. There is also Puskarini which is the holy pond which is said that Mayadevi took a dip into the pond before she gave birth to the Prince who later became Buddha.

There is a pillar in Lumbini to mark the visit of Ashoka, the famous emperor of India.

Lumbini , as on 1997, by the journal published by UNESCO, is listed as a World Heritage Site and was specifically nominated for the World Heritage Program.

Hindus also regard the Buddha as the incarnation of Lord Bishnu and thousands of Hindus also visit the place as a holy destination and they all specially visit Lumbini on the full moon day of the Nepali Calendar, Baisakh, which is said to be the same day in which Buddha was born, was enlightened and was dead.
