Annapurna Region Trekking
THE ANNAPURNA REGION…A Haven for trails that leads into the kind of wilderness that welcomes one & all into a blissful world of sublime beauty…
For a lot of time, the Annapurna region was once hailed as Nepal’s foremost trekking destination, but of late, it has temporarily gone into the shade because of the Solu-Khumbu. However, the recent construction of two roads, one to Manang from Besisahar (due to be finished in 2011 & must be completed by now) and the other to Muktinath and Lo Manthang from Beni (assumed to be completed in 2013) has rendered much of the traditional Annapurna Circuit not too thrilling for treks like it was before. Despite the loss of this world famous route, the Annapurna region is re-creating itself into something new and hopes to grow to become more popular with adventure seekers and pilgrims more than ever before. A new trail is in the offing & getting developed from Muktinath that avoids the new road and this should be completed in 2013.
The region is said to have seven ethnic groups living and working in this area, from Hindu farmers to Tibetan Lamas who can be seen strutting around in colorful tunics topped of with Stetsons that look much like the old west & in some ways would take you back to the days of ‘Billy the kid’’. The most prominent ethnic groups of Annapurna region are Gurungs, Thakalis and the Manangba. Due to the extremes of elevation the region contains a remarkable diversity of flora; from sub-tropical lowland forests of oak, bamboo and rhododendron in the south to the high alpine meadows and windswept desert plateaus in the north, most bordering Tibet. The Animals found here are pika, blue sheep and Himalayan Tahr. There are even more fauna who shy away from trekkers.
Annapurna region trekking protected by the Annapurna Conservation Area that covers nearly 7,629 sq. km, which is the first and the largest conservation area in Nepal and the home of various wild animals, birds and flora and fauna. Besides mountains and natural landscapes, there is another attraction, which is Tilicho Lake (4950m) situated at the highest place in the world and there also lies world’s deepest gorge Kali-Gandaki river. Because of these all the features, Annapurna region trekking is one of the rewarding, special and demanding trekking trails in Nepal. There are various options to reach Annapurna region, you can either take flight or go by bus from Kathmandu to Pokhara or Jomsom and then continue your trekking. Similarly, the trekking is possible to extend from Pokhara to Chitwan National Park and river rafting tour in Trishuli River so as the jungle safari trips.
