This is one absorbing journey where we get the feel of different cultures & an interesting mix of traditions that can only be found in the Annapurna region. This spiritual tour laced with sublime adventure kicks off with a flight into the heart of the lower Mustang district that was once a kingdom, from where we plod on to the ancient village of Kagbeni, on the border of upper Mustang and the Hidden Kingdom. As we hike the trails, the deep valleys & massive mountains that encompass the Annapurna massifs, on the way we encounter an assorted group of friendly communities & different terrain levels that amaze us with the variety in vegetation, from the subtropics foliage laden jungles to typical arid dry landscapes that are found on the Tibetan plateau. Here, we travel North East through parched landscapes to the sacred pilgrimage town of Muktinath; this area is Tibet all but in name only.
This area is well developed with lodges that have learnt how to cater to the needs of western trekkers’ providing some amazing facilities that surprise backpackers to no ends. The revert hike takes us through the Kali Gandaki canyon, the deepest in the World. And then we enter into Thakali and Gurung ethnic areas where the culture is as colorful as the people, hiking through lush forests complemented by the ever changing views of the Annapurnas, on the way. This trail is normally flooded with trekkers; & the sceneries & vistas are realistic imaginations of beauty that stir the emotions & set the heart fluttering. You can even avoid the rush season hordes & still get fine blue weather & views that dreams are made off.
