On 26 August 2026, a catastrophic flood in the Bhote Koshi River in Rasuwa District caused widespread destruction and enormous loss of life and property. The disaster severely affected communities along the river valleys of Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading and Gorkha, destroying homes, roads, bridges, businesses and essential infrastructure.

The Government of Nepal immediately mobilized security forces and emergency teams for search, rescue and relief operations. However, the scale of the disaster is immense, and many affected communities urgently need food, shelter, clothing, medical assistance and long-term rehabilitation.

A Disaster That Has Changed Thousands of Lives

The destruction extends far beyond the immediate flood zone.

Families have lost their homes and livelihoods. Roads and bridges have been washed away, making access to remote communities extremely difficult. Schools and other community infrastructure have also been damaged, while many families remain separated from loved ones.
